What Is Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF)?

Silver Diamine Fluroide is a type of liquid fluoride that possesses silver ions.  The silver ions then act to harden both tooth structure and decay in attempt to prevents cavities from progressing.

How Is Silver Diamine Fluoride Placed?

Silver Diamine Fluoride is placed in contact with the tooth cavity for 60 seconds following thorough air drying of the tooth. The SDF is placed either with a small brush for groove surface cavities, or a piece of floss for cavities in between the teeth. A layer of varnish is then applied to the tooth to help seal in the SDF.  This simple procedure is then repeated for each cavity.
